Hamburg
Hamburg, NJ is the location of the famous Gingerbread Castle. Designed and built by Joseph Urban, it was completed in 1928 at a cost of $250,000. No word on what Mr. Urban did with all the empty boxes of gingerbread cookies (we estimate there would have been approximately 75,000). Whatever he decided, we sure hope he didn’t try to jam them down the garbage disposal (never a good idea). Is your septic system behaving like a century-old cookie-castle? Better call for service right away!
Present Hamburg was originally named Wallings, after one of the original settlers, Joseph Wallings Sr. The town name was then changed to Sharpsboro after a forge called the Sharpsboro Iron Works. Finally, one day the town became Hamburg while the Mayor was filing paperwork and simultaneously craving Five Guys (not true).
