Hewitt is named for Abram Stevens Hewitt. An accomplished man, Hewitt was a teacher, lawyer, iron manufacturer, U.S. Congressman, and mayor of New York City. Heavily involved in both science and education, Hewitt is considered the “Father of the New York City Subway System.”
Nobody knows who the mother is, but she must have been quite the beauty (have you seen the A train recently?).
