Hopatcong

For a handful of years in the late 19th century, Hopatcong was actually called, “Town of Brooklyn.” We don’t exactly know why, but we’re guessing it’s because residents hoped that by naming their township Brooklyn, they’d be able to take the subway into Manhattan. When that proved not to work, they settled on the current name.
